Kristy M. Chan and First met in person at Frieze London in the fall of 2022, and by December she  was in Los Angeles starting her residency at the Cabin. Chan’s artistic practice is centered around the  influence of the environment ⎯ whether ecological or cultural, and on one’s identity. Growing up in  Hong Kong and observing the energy and chaos of such a large bustling city, Chan brings freneticism  to her kaleidoscopic paintings. During her time in Los Angeles at The Cabin LA, Chan was struck by  how dusty and, at times, dirty, the city was. Applying this observation to her works, in this painting,  Scaffolding for a Dusty Mirage, Chan considers the Los Angeles environment in what she describes  as a “dramatic” way. Noting that, in LA, “every puddle is an ocean, every breeze is a storm, and every  molehill is a mountain.” Chan is represented by The Artist Room.
