Gideon Rubin received his BFA from the School of Visual Arts, New York in 1999 and his MFA from  the Slade School of Fine Art at the University College in London in 2002. He has had numerous solo  and group exhibitions around the world and was fairly established by the time of his residency at The  Cabin LA. Rubin is well known for his faceless portraits which explore ideas about childhood, family,  loss, and nostalgia. Inspired by photography, particularly in magazines and old family photos, as well

as the paintings of old masters, Rubin’s works evoke in the viewer a sense of longing and  remembrance. Works like Sidney may call to mind vague memories, but the faceless quality to this  work is intended to prevent us from inscribing a singular identity to the figure. Rubin is represented by  Galerie Karsten Greve, Hosfelt Gallery, Fox Jensen McCroy Gallery, Alon Segev, Galleria Monica De  Cardenas, and RYAN LEE.
